Hollow Creek
I’ve played some golf courses with “creek” in their names wondering where, exactly, the little brook was supposed to be. At Hollow Creek GC, you can’t miss it. The burbling mini-river runs right through the layout’s mid-section on a crooked, east-west crawl, occasionally making a menace of itself while looking altogether innocent. You can’t trust this roguish rivulet, but you can count on sensational golf at Hollow Creek—and you’d better believe the Deal Caddy is delivering great value with 18 holes and a cart at these prices:
One player—$28, up to 38% off retail
Two players—$50 ($25 per person), up to 44% off
Four players—$92 ($23 per person), up to 49% off
Play any time weekdays and after 12:00 p.m. weekends, from now through March 31, and see what makes Hollow Creek a Frederick-area favorite.Actually, I’ll spell it out for you. The course is conveniently located near I-70. Conditions are routinely first-rate. Great views of the Catoctin Mountains abound. And the layout is simply outstanding. Veteran designer Rick Jacobson carved 18 artful holes from the Middletown Valley, whose mellow pitch and roll provided an inspiring canvas. Jacobson spent several years with Nicklaus Design, and you can see the Bear’s influence in Hollow Creek’s broad fairways and boldly contoured greens. Bunkers are plentiful and well-placed; the aesthetics postcard-perfect.
Scoring well at Hollow Creek requires capitalizing on the 6,780-yard track’s numerous short par 4s—and being leery of the serpentine, watery nemesis. Hollow Road Creek, as it’s actually called, wriggles into play a handful of times. In most cases it steers clear of the golfer’s direct path, but get careless and it’ll make off with your ball. Watch out or this course may steal your heart, too.
