Choctaw Creek
Some golfers go jelly-legged at the sight of a water hazard. Others trudge into bunkers as though marching to their deaths. For the Deal Caddy, it’s trees—those innocent, oxygen-spewing symbols of vitality and peace—that give me the heebie-jeebies. Maybe they’ve snatched too many shots with their greedy, grabby branches or stashed too many new balls in their shady debris. For whatever reason, I just don’t trust trees.
Yet, somehow, I adore Choctaw Creek Golf Course, a sylvan slice of heaven where just $21 buys 18 holes, with cart, good any time Monday through Friday. If you prefer weekends, pay just $25, and tee it up any time Saturday or Sunday. Both deals are valid through January 31, 2013, saving you up to 36% off regular rates.
Bunker-phobes have little to fear at Choctaw Creek, where designer Tom Billings dispatched just six sand pits throughout the entire layout. Water appears more frequently, but never in the intimidating form of lakes or wetlands. Instead, the course’s namesake wriggles across or alongside nine holes, forcing your hand on strategy while adding a scenic touch.

Choctaw Creek is rightfully proud of its ship-shape bentgrass greens, tiny targets that can put a dent in your GIR stats.
Now about those trees. All I’ll say is—they’re large, they’re leafy and they’re lovely to look at. Just don’t spray your driver around Choctaw Creek GC, and you’ll enjoy their therapeutic presence. Speaking of which, maybe I should see a counselor about my arboreal dread. As they say, it’s 10 miles into the woods and 10 miles out.
