Highlights
- Crescent Oaks began life in 1991 as a private club. Renowned architect and good player Steve Smyers had an assist from PGA and Champions Tour player Jim Colbert on the design, which covers 6,914 yards and exudes some championship attitude.
- Water is in play on two-thirds of the holes, and you'll face a number of lump-in-your-throat carries. When the pins are tucked, Crescent Oaks gives better players everything they want in the challenge department.

Crescent Oaks Country Club
Private clubs going public to survive economic hardships leave your Deal Caddy with mixed emotions. On the one hand, I feel for the members who may be losing their special sanctuary. On the other, I’m thrilled for the golfers who gain access to outstanding courses that were previously off-limits. There’s no such ambivalence with today’s deal—it’s a winner from any angle. Pay just $18 for 18 holes at Crescent Oaks Country Club, a fantastic, formerly private track in Tarpon Springs. The price includes cart and is valid any time Sunday through Frday and after 12pm on Saturday through September 17, saving you 40% off regular rates.
Crafted by one of the Deal Caddy’s favorite architects, Steve Smyers, Crescent Oaks was a members-only club from 1991 until it closed in November 2010. A new owner fixed the place up and made it semi-private, re-opening in October 2011 to the delight of the locals. Their new playground features up to 6,914 yards of serious golf, though seven sets of tees promise hospitality for all. Water creeps into play on the majority of holes and compels a number of lump-in-your-throat carries. Smyers wasn’t shy about splashing around a little sand, either, carving 70-plus bunkers into Crescent Oaks.
The renovation put a fine finish on the course and clubhouse, and new management ensures the service and amenities live up to the quality of the golf. No two ways about it—at $1 per hole, Crescent Oaks is an absolute must-play.
