The Deal Caddy’s about to share a little secret, but you have to promise not to tell my friends back East, down South or in the Heartland—and whatever you do, DO NOT mention it to the folks in Southern California. They’d blow their laid-back tops if they knew I considered the Pacific Northwest the most beautiful region in America. There, I said it. If word of my favoritism should leak, I’ll ’fess up first, then point any offended parties to Skamania Lodge. Its first-order Northwest splendor can’t be denied, and it’s only enhanced by these rates:
Play 18 holes with cart for just $20 Monday through Friday, or $25 Saturday or Sunday, saving up to 50% off the usual fees. The deal is valid any time or day until April 30.
Wedged deep in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge, just 45 miles from Portland, Skamania Lodge delivers jaw-dropping grandeur in a backwoods hideaway. The mighty river rolls past the resort’s southern flank, while colorful peaks tower overhead, serving up photo opps as far as the eye can see. The golf course complements the setting to perfection. Designer Gene “Bunny” Mason did his best Paul Bunyan impression by clearing broad bands of fairway across the evergreen-clad slopes. A pair of lakes come into play occasionally, but bigger challenges include skewed lies and gusts wafting up from the gorge.
At just over 6,000 yards, the par 70 track won’t break your spirit. If anything, it’ll leave you exhilarated. That’s golf in America’s most breathtaking neck of the woods—but, please, don’t quote me on that. Someone down in Texas might put a bounty on my head.
