Kestrel Ridge
This just in: Golf is hard. So why do we make it nearly impossible by tackling the longest, most punishing courses we can find? Don’t answer that. Just do yourself a favor and enjoy a round at Kestrel Ridge GC, an open, inviting layout with enough trouble to remind you that the game’s challenges are the source of its appeal. I’ll make this an easy decision by pricing 18 holes with cart at just $20—up to 46% off retail—good any time or day from course opening through May 23.
Kestrel Ridge GC’s Columbus locale, just up Hwy. 151 from Madison, means crowds are manageable and round times quicker than average. The spacious layout helps, too. Designed by Dan Feick and Chad Eberhardt, the course features wide, welcoming fairways that rarely take the driver out of your hands. Your greens-in-regulation stats should get a nice bump as well, given the size of Kestrel Ridge’s putting surfaces. The length of 6,116 yards is a little deceiving—it’s a par 70 with only two par 5s—but mashers who drive it well should wear out their short irons.
Now about those obstacles. Start with more than 65 bunkers, all large and fairly shallow but hazards nonetheless. There’s also water on a half-dozen holes, including the lake-hugging 11th, while wind streams unimpeded across the property. In other words, don’t post a par-breaking round in your handicap log just yet.
Maybe you’ll fire a personal best at Kestrel Ridge; maybe you won’t. Either way, I’m sure you’ll have a whole lot of fun. Isn’t that what golf is all about?
